Are you an EAL teacher? Here are 4 reasons why you should become a TEMC Tutor

The Teaching in English in multilingual classrooms (TEMC) course focuses on the needs of multilingual students, in particular EAL students, and ways to ensure their success in learning. Why become a TEMC Tutor in your school?

1. Implement evidence-based strategies to improve your students’ reading and writing across all areas

During the training, you will learn the language-related needs of EAL students and consolidate teaching practices that address students’ language and learning needs in a holistic and explicit manner. Such strategies are anchored in evidence-based, academic research and have been shown to speed up students’ literacy skills across the curriculum (Acevedo et al., 2023; Brisk, 2021; Humphrey, 2016).

2. Become an expert and leader in multilingual learning in your school

By becoming a TEMC tutor, you will be able to provide your school with sustainable, cost-effective and high-quality, in-house PD, making you a highly sought-after expert. The tutor certification is a very valuable skill to have on your resume and can unlock your next career move. Many of our tutors have moved up to a ‘Head of EAL’ position following the training.

3. Get access to a global network of like-minded educators

By becoming a TEMC Tutor, you are joining a global community of hundreds of tutors working in various contexts. During the training, you can expect a collaborative and engaging adult learning environment, where you contribute to everyone’s learning. You will be given the opportunity to reflect on your own practice as well as consider how you can enact whole-school change. Post-training, you will have access to our team of experts should you need any assistance.

4. Get university credits as part of a tertiary degree

Thinking of completing a tertiary degree? Many prestigious universities have provided credit for the completion of Lexis Education’s Tutor Training. Getting trained is a cost-efficient way to get credits. This can apply to you as a Tutor, but also for the participants you will train as part of a Teacher Course, if they are intending on completing a tertiary degree.
